Before our appt news, lets back up to Kevin's homecoming! Kevin came home a little after 11pm on Thurs., Nov 29th. We got home from the airport & settled down around 1:30a.m. I started having contractions shortly after. I let Kevin sleep & tried to be quiet as I laid on the floor in pain & then tried a bath. When the contractions got to 3 min. Apart, I woke kevin & told him It didn't feel like labor (was different than how I felt with Liam) but we should probably go get checked out with 3 min. Apart contractions. So my mom came over and got Liam & we headed out to the base.
We got there a little before 5a.m. They hooked me to the monitors & determined contractions were 2.5-3 min apart & Lorelei is locked in low position (her head can be felt with a fingertip) BUT my cervix is only dilated to 3cm (has to be a 4 to be admitted). They offered to let us walk if we wanted, but we decided to head home. Thankfully we did because I've been like this for 5 days (contrax come & go, but no progress!).
When we arrived at my appt. this morning the receptionist said she had to go up to MIU to get my record because they were convinced we would be back! Nope, sorry... Still pregnant!
Appt. started off normal, 118lbs is a 24lb gain for me, blood pressure was a bit high for me, but I accredited that to the craziness of having to take Liam to the appt. last minute due to Braxten being sent home from school sick (to Grandma's, so to be cautious, we kept Liam away!).
In the room, I requested urinalysis (not sure if I have an infection or if her head is just making me tingly!). Results on that Tom. Doctor came in & we discussed the regulars (weight gain, baby movement, contractions, etc. & we had the bfeeding and birth control chat!).
Then the doctor measured my belly. He requested the ultrasound machine after my measurement :( Not a good sign!
He took measurements as best he could (he couldn't get an accurate reading on her head because she's so low in my pelvis). The data he did collect indicates Lorelei is measuring 34 weeks + a few days & is approx 5lbs, 5oz.
Because this could be a sign of IUGR (intrauterine growth restriction/retardation) he decided we would visit MIU for a NST (stress test) & go to a specialist tomorrow in Fresno for a growth scan to rule out IUGR.
Lorelei did well on the stress test (the nurse said she truly thinks we just have a small baby on our hands & continued to comment on how active she is--she kept kicking/punching the monitors out of place!). Lorelei has NEVER liked dopplers or ultrasounds--DIVA!
We're off to Fresno tomorrow morning to rule out IUGR. The reasons for growth restriction are endless & some of the effects are frightening, so I'm just going to encourage you to Google if curious & pray for us regardless!
If IUGR is suspected to be the culprit, we will be induced Thurs. (Lorelei will be better off on the outside than inside where she can no longer grow). If it is ruled out, we decide if we want to undergo an induction next week Tues. (I think the doctor feels sorry for me!). At this point, we'd be over 39 weeks & medically we'd be considered full term. I'm usually of the thought that a baby decides when he/she is born, but part of me fears Lorelei truly is better off out (regardless of IUGR) because I can confirm she's out of space (& her head is going to be so mis-shapen from being in my pelvis for some long!).
For now, we're just making sure she's moving regularly & praying. More news tomorrow (hopefully good news!). Grow Lorelei grow!
I've included photos from Kevin's homecoming (pretty much our only maternity photos too!).
WARNING: This will make you tear up!
