A Difficult Start to the 15th Week

It's been a difficult beginning of the 15th week, but we're hopeful we have the problem figured out and under control.  I have been feeling very light-headed and can be talking to you one moment and laying on the floor the next (voluntarily putting myself there, have not passed out yet).

Last night was the worst so far.  I was preparing dinner, having a conversation with Kevin and within seconds everything went yellow, I began to shake, I got very warm/sweaty, felt weak and was almost certain I was going to pass out.  It felt like my blood sugar had suddenly dropped lower than I have ever experienced before.  I sat, took deep breaths, put my head between my legs and did my best to communicate to Kevin (who had his back to me) that I needed juice.  I gulped the orange juice down as quickly as I could and began to feel better within a few minutes, with the exception of one eye seeing nothing but black.  Kevin quickly finished preparing my plate and I ate a few bites as fast as I could manage.  The more I ate and the more juice I drank, the better I felt.  Needless to say, it was a night of juice drinking, eating and laying down for me!

So, it is a relief to know what is causing the dizzy spells (it's been a couple of weeks of off/on again dizziness, although never as bad as last night).  Until last night, I have debated on what could be causing these symptoms.  We truly think it is my hypoglycemia being affected by the pregnancy.  I have been eating/snacking regularly, but it seems pregnancy related hypoglycemia requires more than the "norm" and better snack choices.  So, Kevin and I have decided that I will drink orange juice throughout the day (since I am also back on the "nothing sounds good" kick) and see how that works until we can discuss the problem in further depth with the doctor at our appointment on the 18th.  So far, that method is working.

On a positive note, when my blood sugar is under control, I feel great.  My energy is slowly coming back to me and I am excited to get back to work when school starts up again next week!  For now, the focus is on keeping those sugars up, since I am now aware that pregnancy will not allow me the "predictors" I usually have or time to meet those needs.  So I will continue my focus on staying ahead of the game and hope for a better end to week 15!

Here are some photos we took of the bump when I reached the 15 week mark (okay 15 weeks, 1 day--but who's counting?).  Our little peanut is definitely growing and I definitely look smaller with my shirt down (but if you look closely, we think you'll see a bump!).

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

Therapy...

Not being silent about our loss is looking to be the best therapy for me during this difficult time. Through Facebook I've had countless friends reach out to me and share their stories of loss. Although it doesn't make me feel better, as we're talking about too many babies in heaven, it does make me feel less alone. So I was diagnosed w/ blighted ovum. Meaning the gestational sac and placenta was growing inside of me (the ultrasound showed it was indeed around 7 weeks along) but the baby stopped developing and was reabsorbed into my uterus. Problem is, the placenta is responsible for pregnancy symptoms, so my body still thinks it is pregnant, but there is no longer a baby or embryo. So, until I actually miscarry the tissue, I will feel pregnant. I don't know how to explain how I've been feeling the past few weeks. At first I thought it was just my uneasy feelings of this pregnancy being "unplanned" and so close to my previous pregnancy. It took me a wh...

25 Weeks & Doctor's Appt.

We hit the 25 week mark today!  Hard to believe!  Time is flying so fast... We had our doctor's appointment today (Kevin is out of town Thursday, so we moved it up).  I weighed in at a whopping 109.8!  My nurse and my doctor's response was they are so so proud of me (I felt so special!  Who would have thought GAINING weight would be so exciting?!).  Kevin's response "WHOA!"  And my response to his "WATCH IT Buddy!"  Ha!  So that's almost 14lbs of weight gain!  I really am quite proud of myself... never thought I could do it (although, I spend most of my time eating these days, so it makes sense). The nurse said I "look cute, am starting to show and have that pregnancy waddle."  Considering I did not feel like I was waddling (sometimes I have to because my tailbone hurts so bad) I was not exactly thrilled about this comment, lol!  I asked Kevin if there is something he is forgetting to tell me... ha! The doctor measured my...
