2 Month Check-Up

Getting so big...
I ADORE this lil' guy!

Liam had his 2 month check-up this past week.  He did well with his two shots (we're on a delayed vaccination schedule).  He cried when the needle hit the skin, I picked him up after they finished and he was over it.  Came home and he napped in my arms for 4 hrs (although, this is getting to be the norm for him, so not sure it had anything to do w/ the shots).  He had a bit of diarrhea yesterday and was a little fussy, but overall the shots did not seem to effect him much.

This was our first time at this office and we like it so much better!  The nurses are very personable and ADORED Liam (I think he has a crush on one of them & the doc's daughter!).  The doctor is a bit soft spoken, but super intelligent and very loving toward Liam.  He seemed to like her.  Also the environment is much more "kid friendly".

Anyways, back to Liam...

Stats:
Weight: 10lbs, 12 oz
Height: 21 1/2 inches
Head: 39 9/10
Diapers: Size 1 (finally!)
Clothes: 0-3 months (finally!)

Doctor said he is a little on the short side (10th percentile) and a "well-fed breastfed baby" (30th percentile)--hey did she just call my baby fat?!  Ha!  Poor Liam!  Overall she said he is a healthy young man and looks great.  She gave us a vitamin supplement that we administer daily and said she'll see us next month (staggering vaccines means you go monthly--sort of stinks for Liam, but we feel less vaccines at one time is the safer alternative).

Liam got a new swing (he didn't really like the other one).  We get more "out of mommy/daddy's arms time" out of this one, but he still doesn't nap anywhere but in our arms!  He can be sound asleep, but set him down and he's wide awake (again--don't know how we get away with it at night).  Oh what a cuddler Liam is!  Makes it difficult to get anything done, but we feel blessed to have this time with him.  We try to enjoy it whenever possible (although sometimes we have to carry him in the sling to get things done--like dinner!).

He also got a Kickin' Coaster, which he is too small for now but I think he will get a lot of use out of later.  He LOVES kicking off of people, so we thought this would be perfect for him.  Fun, fun!  For now we put his feet on the mat then push off for him!  Or sometimes we use it as somewhere to set him for a few seconds while we tend to something else.

Update:  I started creating this post on Saturday.  On Sunday, Liam started pushing off on his own!  Yeah Liam!  See him in action:

He does allow us to eat together if we put him in his baby seat on top of the table (I know we shouldn't, but he's safe sitting right next to mommy, I promise!).  Also, he enjoyed sitting in his bouncy chair outside today as we did some yard work.  He just stared at the trees and some butterflies fluttering around.  We've also discovered that he LOVES laying in his crib and staring at his mobile.  Even his worst case of fusiness is usually cured by placing him in the crib with his mobile on, but again NO NAPPING in there!  He gets so excited--his little legs get going and he starts cooing/laughing.  So precious...

Besides the few minutes we sneak with the previously mentioned items, the only other time he's not in our arms is when he plays in his jumperoo, lays on his play mat or sleeps in his bassinet at night.  Other than that he is usually being cuddled.  Although, I must say in the beginning there was no laying him in the crib, sitting him in the bouncy chair, etc. so perhaps we're making slow but steady progress?!  Let's hope so.  We LOVE cuddling (and he gets some really long naps out of it, anywhere between 3-5 hrs) but we want Liam to be somewhat independent too!

Liam is sucking his thumb/fingers/hand like crazy now.  He prefers any of these body parts over the paci any day.  Although he hasn't figured out how to unfold his thumb yet so he usually just sucks away at his knuckle.  Kevin always encourages him to "unfold your fingers"--too funny!

Friday night we gave Liam two 5oz bottles before bed, hoping it'd get him to sleep longer (usually he eats from the breast, then two hours later--the last feeding, he eats from the bottle to fill him up before bed).  That night, I decided to skip the nursing and give him a bottle at 8pm and another at 10pm, hoping the 2 bottles would tank him up and get him to sleep longer.  It MAY have worked!  He slept from 11pm to 7am!  8 HOURS!  Now that's more like it.  The jury is still out on this though--not sure if he slept that long because of the extra bottle or because he didn't nap much yesterday.  He was not able to repeat it last night, so perhaps it was just a fluke?!  Guess we'll see...

I leave you with some photos/video of Porky's birthday celebration on 8/10/10.  He turned 6 and we were all there to celebrate.  The video was just too cute not to share (a lot going on in the Fagundes household that night--a nice peak into "controlled" chaos at our house!).

Therapy...

Not being silent about our loss is looking to be the best therapy for me during this difficult time. Through Facebook I've had countless friends reach out to me and share their stories of loss. Although it doesn't make me feel better, as we're talking about too many babies in heaven, it does make me feel less alone. So I was diagnosed w/ blighted ovum. Meaning the gestational sac and placenta was growing inside of me (the ultrasound showed it was indeed around 7 weeks along) but the baby stopped developing and was reabsorbed into my uterus. Problem is, the placenta is responsible for pregnancy symptoms, so my body still thinks it is pregnant, but there is no longer a baby or embryo. So, until I actually miscarry the tissue, I will feel pregnant. I don't know how to explain how I've been feeling the past few weeks. At first I thought it was just my uneasy feelings of this pregnancy being "unplanned" and so close to my previous pregnancy. It took me a wh...

25 Weeks & Doctor's Appt.

We hit the 25 week mark today!  Hard to believe!  Time is flying so fast... We had our doctor's appointment today (Kevin is out of town Thursday, so we moved it up).  I weighed in at a whopping 109.8!  My nurse and my doctor's response was they are so so proud of me (I felt so special!  Who would have thought GAINING weight would be so exciting?!).  Kevin's response "WHOA!"  And my response to his "WATCH IT Buddy!"  Ha!  So that's almost 14lbs of weight gain!  I really am quite proud of myself... never thought I could do it (although, I spend most of my time eating these days, so it makes sense). The nurse said I "look cute, am starting to show and have that pregnancy waddle."  Considering I did not feel like I was waddling (sometimes I have to because my tailbone hurts so bad) I was not exactly thrilled about this comment, lol!  I asked Kevin if there is something he is forgetting to tell me... ha! The doctor measured my...
