It was a lovely and busy weekend in the Fagundes household. Kevin took Friday off of work (poor guy needed a break) and we gave it to him. We slept in, ate breakfast, lounged around for a bit, then Kevin headed off to a quick work function and was back home in enough time to take us out to the beach for a while. The dogs LOVED romping around in the dunes (they love chasing each other in sand!). Wish I would have brought the camera along--they really were too funny.
Saturday we set our alarm and got up at a decent time so we could celebrate our Valentine's Day (we decided to do our celebrating a day early since we had a scheduled hospital tour on hearts day!). We enjoyed a nice breakfast, watched the dogs play (daddy even took them for a walk, while mommy prepared a "lunch to go" and some snacks). We headed out to Heart Castle that afternoon with plans to see the elephant seals and have a nice dinner after our tour. We had a wonderful time driving there--it was such a gorgeous day and the waves we're so huge. It was such a relaxing drive!
We arrived a little too early for our tour, so we spent some time reading about the history of Mr. Hearst and checking out some architectural elements of the castle that were on display. This passed the time quickly and before we knew it we were on the bus headed up to the castle. The ride up was amazing--the hills were gorgeous and I even saw some deer! When we got to the castle I was in awe--what an elaborate structure!
After getting off of the bus I realized I wasn't going to be able to stay on my feet for long. I spent several minutes convincing myself it was all mind over matter and begged myself not to ruin this experience for Kevin. I tried so hard to concentrate on the tour guide and the beauty around us. Unfortunately I quickly admitted to myself it was not mind over matter (or I am just pathetic) and told Kevin I wasn't feeling too good. A few minutes later I was passed out at the base of one of the many stair wells of Hearst Castle! Luckily Kevin knew I was not feeling well and had his arm around me, so I did not fall.
Within minutes I was surrounded by EMTs. Kevin explained that he had sat me down, I had not fallen and that I am 5 months pregnant with a little guy who sits on a couple of nerves which causes me to lose oxygen to my brain, thus resulting in my passing out. I was ushered to a bed where they took my vitals, asked a lot of questions and allowed me some time to drink my water, rest and lay on my side in an attempt to get baby to move. At first it seemed hopeless and I thought we'd have to ride the van back down to the car! So I tried laying on my other side for a while and again did not notice any movement. I decided to head to the bathroom to empty my bladder and felt the baby move after I did so. Feeling much better (almost instantly) we decided to try to finish our tour!
We were honored to receive a ride up Mr. Hearst's private elevator to meet the rest of the group (strangers who were worried/relieved to see me back on the tour). We have no idea how much of the tour we missed, but we did get to see Mr. Hearst's private suite which is what we were really interested in. I felt bad that we missed a good portion of the tour, but we did take in a lot of sights and enjoyed ourselves (at least that's what Kevin said--poor guy!).

After our tour Kevin asked if I'd be up for a little drive to check out the elephant seals. Feeling almost 100% again and loving animals the way I do there was no way I was missing out on this experience... and I am so glad we went. What an AMAZING sight it was! It is mating season, so there were hundreds of seals on the beach--calling out to potential mates, males "sparring" one another and my favorite--lots of itty bitty babies staying close to their mothers! It was a beautiful glimpse into one of Mother Nature's miracles. We both just stood there taking it all in and truly enjoying ourselves.
After our fun with the seals, we headed into Morro for a nice dinner. It was definitely the place to be--most of the restaurants had lines and 35-45 minute wait times (a pregnant lady's worst nightmare). We ended up finding a restaurant tucked into the back of some shops and much to our surprise there was no wait, even though they were pretty busy. We got a table right next to the window, overlooking the bay and the rock. It was lovely and we hung out there for a couple of hours, enjoying the food, drinks (for Kevin) and the live band! Such fun!
When we got home, Kevin turned on the Olympics and Mommy to Be fell asleep on the couch. What a long and eventful day it had been!
Sunday morning Mommy to Be was up early (our son is a morning person and starts to move between 5:30am-7:30am). It's not painful or annoying by any means--I actually enjoy all of the little "flutters" I feel during the day, but its just not something I can sleep through. So I was up early and Kevin slept in (we knew it was his last opportunity to do so). The furs and I had our VDay which consisted of a special treat for them. I snapped some shots of them enjoying their treats for Daddy to see later and hung out with them on the couch for a while.

We finally forced Daddy out of bed so we could get ready for a quick trip to Walmart (had to get some painting supplies for our kitchen) and then we headed over to SLO for a hospital tour! We spent the remainder of the day/evening working in the yard and then painting the kitchen baseboards (well Kevin painted, I watched--from a distance of course!).
Monday morning Kevin had to drive some recruits to Lompoc where they would catch a ride to L.A. So I spent the morning cleaning up the house, pre-registering at one of the hospitals, setting up an appt. with a pediatrician and getting ready for the day. That afternoon, we headed out to the Butterfly Gardens for our 20 week maternity photos, then decided to get ice cream in the Village when we were finished. It was a beautiful (but hot day--80 degrees... YIKES!) so we came back to the house, got the boys and headed to the beach! It was a nice, relaxing way to end a long and beautiful weekend!
Now, we're both off and running. Kevin is back at work (and must be super busy, as I haven't heard from him yet) and I have lots of errands/chores to get done. Tomorrow I get the honor of babysitting our niece Natalie and am so excited about having her (she is so precious). Hopefully I'll have a few opportunities to capture some photos of our time together... look for those in a future post. I also get Natalie again next week and Uncle Kevin took the day off to spend with us! We're both very excited to have this opportunity!
Next doctor's appt. is this Thursday--will post updates at some point during the day! I will also spend some time in SLO pre-registering at the hospital and signing up for birthing classes. I cannot believe we've come this far already. Time is flying by... we'll be parents in give or take 19 weeks! WOW--that's an amazing sentence!

Photos of the seals:
This group was right in front of us and so much fun to watch! No one even knew they were there (they were well hidden behind a hill).

Really getting into it

Enjoy your time with Natalie tomorrow! How fun!
Talk to you guys soon!
Sounds like you are getting the hospital stuff out of the way. How were the tours?
Oh, and I haven't had time to post, but the nursery is going to be cute! Nice colors.
