21 Week Appointment

We had our 21 week doctor's appointment yesterday.  It was really uneventful to say the least.  I gained 2lbs which the nurse/doctor seemed fine with, but I know I am supposed to be gaining about 1-1.5lbs a week (due to being underweight when I got pregnant) so I was a bit disappointed.  I should have gained at least 4lbs!  I guess I had better eat more (although it seems like that is all I do these days, so I'm not sure how I'll increase it any).

Everything looked fine, including test results.  We discussed with both the nurse and the doctor my passing out again and they both agreed that it is a normal pregnancy symptom for some women.  Although the nurse recommended I make an appointment with my regular doctor to get more answers.  Although our OB did not seem too concerned and actually said it may get better over time as the uterus rises off my bladder and whatever nerves it seems to be sitting on currently.  So I am debating on making another appointment with the doctor (I've discussed this with him before).  Does not sound like there's much anyone can do.  They just keep telling Kevin to keep an eye on me (easier said than done for a guy who works 12-14 hours every day).

They took measurements of my growing belly and said everything is right where it's supposed to be and right on track!  Everything looked good and "felt" good according to the doctor.  We listened to the little guy's heart which was still strong.  We discussed which hospital we decided on and registering for classes.  That was pretty much it!  To my surprise no blood work or any other tests were ordered at the end of the appointment, which was a relief (and gave us time to go out for breakfast--what a yummy treat!).

Before we went out for breakfast we preregistered at the final hospital.  I registered at both hospitals because one has a NICU and the other does not.  The plan is to deliver at French Hospital.  If for some reason they anticipate us needing the NICU we'll deliver at Sierra Vista Hospital.  I thought registering at both would not hurt just in case we need to utilize the NICU during labor or after.

After taking both tours we had a lot more pros for French than we did Sierra Vista.  One major deciding factor is the recovery rooms at Sierra Vista are set up for two patients at a time, which they promise they try not to do, but in the instance that you do get paired up with another patient, dad's MUST go home at night.  Neither one of us really liked that idea!  French allows you all to sleep in the same room if BOTH parties agree, which we both liked the sound of.  Other positives were the private/non-hospital like feeling at French, the fact that you are not moved an entire floor after giving birth and the staff was much more friendly and personable.  We also learned that both hospitals should allow more than the two visitors per room since our delivery is in the summer time when flu season is officially over.  That was a relief to hear.

Now we're in the process of registering for classes--childbirth, babies 101 and breastfeeding.  I've also set up an appointment to meet with a pediatrician that I've heard great things about (from family, friends, the internet).  I should be able to meet with him next week and have lots of questions prepared!  Other than that we're finishing up some odds and ends around the house and waiting on the delivery of our nursery items so we can start that project!

To close I'd like to leave you with our photos from the session we had last week (20 weeks).  There's not much I am fitting into lately (my pre-pregnancy clothes are too small and most maternity clothes I have are still too big) so I was forced to wear black which I see now really slims the belly down a lot.  Not to mention Kevin literally walked in the door from work about 30 minutes before the session, so we did not have much time to prepare our outfits!  Next session I promise to go shopping to find something that will photograph better!  Overall I think they turned out okay...

We are laughing hysterically here--if you look closely to the left of my tummy (where Kevin's hand is) you'll see our little guy has shifted!  He does this a lot, we're not sure if it's his butt or head sticking out (it's definitely a BIG body part) but we see it often (even more obvious in person--my stomach is completely lopsided).  HA!  Funny little guy already (just like daddy!).

I like the first picture in the sequence of you sitting and holding your baby belly! SO CUTE! Definately makes me want to remember to photograph my next pregnancy (ahem --- assuming there will be a NEXT pregnancy!) because I was not so good with that with Ryan.

Therapy...

Not being silent about our loss is looking to be the best therapy for me during this difficult time. Through Facebook I've had countless friends reach out to me and share their stories of loss. Although it doesn't make me feel better, as we're talking about too many babies in heaven, it does make me feel less alone. So I was diagnosed w/ blighted ovum. Meaning the gestational sac and placenta was growing inside of me (the ultrasound showed it was indeed around 7 weeks along) but the baby stopped developing and was reabsorbed into my uterus. Problem is, the placenta is responsible for pregnancy symptoms, so my body still thinks it is pregnant, but there is no longer a baby or embryo. So, until I actually miscarry the tissue, I will feel pregnant. I don't know how to explain how I've been feeling the past few weeks. At first I thought it was just my uneasy feelings of this pregnancy being "unplanned" and so close to my previous pregnancy. It took me a wh...

25 Weeks & Doctor's Appt.

We hit the 25 week mark today!  Hard to believe!  Time is flying so fast... We had our doctor's appointment today (Kevin is out of town Thursday, so we moved it up).  I weighed in at a whopping 109.8!  My nurse and my doctor's response was they are so so proud of me (I felt so special!  Who would have thought GAINING weight would be so exciting?!).  Kevin's response "WHOA!"  And my response to his "WATCH IT Buddy!"  Ha!  So that's almost 14lbs of weight gain!  I really am quite proud of myself... never thought I could do it (although, I spend most of my time eating these days, so it makes sense). The nurse said I "look cute, am starting to show and have that pregnancy waddle."  Considering I did not feel like I was waddling (sometimes I have to because my tailbone hurts so bad) I was not exactly thrilled about this comment, lol!  I asked Kevin if there is something he is forgetting to tell me... ha! The doctor measured my...
