Liam had his 4 month well baby checkup today. He got two more shots (well one shot, one oral vaccine). He did really well--cried when they pricked him, stopped as soon as I picked him up. He spent the day sleeping & had his normal run with diarrhea. Other than that, he's been mostly normal (maybe a bit more fussy, but still pretty happy go lucky!). Good job Liam!
We discussed him rolling over on his tummy/back throughout the night (there's not a square inch of your crib that you don't cover at some point during the night). You constantly roll yourself into the sides of your crib and since we have a breathable mesh bumper, it's not the softest landing and sometimes you cry out for mom/dad to comfort you and re-situate you. We love ya up and send you back to dreamland!
The doc isn't thrilled about you sleeping on your tummy (and truthfully she wants you back in our room until you're 6 months--says it would be easier for us to watch you and turn you back over if you flip, but we're not crazy about insisting you sleep in a way you're not comfortable--and believe me when I say you scream bloody murder when you roll to your back!). We explained that we have a system in your crib which monitors breathing and movement--if you stop breathing it sounds an alarm (so far it has sounded twice, but that was because you moved off of the sensor! PHEW! That gave us a heart attack!).
Anyways, the doc seemed a bit more relieved to hear that and said to keep your room cool, keep all blankets/stuffed animals out of your crib and all the other things we're already doing and you should be fine. We feel the exact same way. We're just hoping you settle down eventually so you don't disrupt your own sleepy time. Poor lil' guy!
Other than that, we discussed a little rash you've developed on your cheeks. The doc said it's probably eczema from drooling (when you wake you're always laying in a puddle of drool!). She said it comes with the territory of drooling and sleeping on your tummy. She recommended we put Cetaphil lotion on it, so that's what we started doing earlier this afternoon and it already seems to be helping!
She gave us a pamphlet on starting solid foods (we jumped the gun on that one) and said they recommend we wait until 6 months, but some babies are ready at 4 months and she said go ahead if/when you're not satisfied. Silly doctor, we told you last month Liam wasn't satisfied and we started rice cereal (against her recommendation--but mommy & daddy read up a lot on the subject and found absolutely no harm in doing so! The biggest worry is allergies and some studies suggest you'd be more susceptible to allergies if we waited. So we went with our gut on that one!). You LOVE your cereal time, you eat well and we're thinking about venturing on to other things soon. We figure you'll tell us when you're ready!

Liam you are definitely growing! Your little head isn't so little and you've put on a little bit of weight and really taken off in length. Great job Liam! We are so proud of you. Even though the doc seems to think you're on the small side, we're happy to see you're catching up! You were so small when we first brought you home and even at your 2 month check up you were GAINING but still on the small side.
Honestly, as long as you're growing--we're thrilled! Just be happy to be YOU Liam and don't let anyone tell you that you don't fit in or you don't match the "norm." Never feel like you have to change who you are to fit a "mold" of someone else thinks you need to be. You are AMAZING and PERFECT just the way you are... don't you ever forget that! Daddy and I will always be proud of you as long as you stay true to YOU!
