Our trip to Hanford for the holidays began a little earlier than we expected this year. On December 12th, I received a phone call that my grandmother had been rushed to the hospital, as she had collapsed in her hallway sometime during the night.
Liam and I loaded up as quickly as we could to make the 3.5 hour drive so I could be with her. My Vava is my world, we've always been very close. Not a memory I have of my childhood that she isn't in or played a part in. She has been one of my biggest cheerleaders and such an encouraging and strong support system. I love her with all of my heart and arrived at the hospital in time to have her tell me "I love you more" several times. I'd learn to cherish those words over the next week, as she was put on a ventilator and could no longer speak to us. Please, meet my grandma... one person who means the most to me in this world and always will.
The two and half weeks while my grandma was hospitalized was filled with lots of highs and lows. Last week was a bit of a slower time, as my grandmother needed a lot of rest to fight her pneumonia. After a heart attack, pneumonia, blood pressure, high heart rate, oxygenation/breathing scares, she was taken off the ventilator and held strong for two days.
It is with a heavy heart that I share that my grandmother went to be with the Lord and my equally amazing grandfather on the evening of December 29th. Words really cannot express how I feel, so all I will say is may she rest in peace. And I PRAY that she knew just how special she was to me, our family and everyone that was blessed enough to know her.
