| WOW! I'm 12 weeks old, already?! |
What a busy weekend we had! Daddy had Friday off so we made the long trek to the base commissary. We had a nice time shopping at Aafes and the commissary (mommy thought it was fun to be back on a base, where for some strange reason, she feels more comfortable/at home!). When we got home, mommy said I had to take a bath to get all of the germs off I had been exposed to. I didn't object... I LOVE my baths!
On Saturday, we attended a family reunion for Great Grandma Fagundes' (RIP) side of the family. This was my first time meeting some of my extended family (and a nice time to reconnect with those I've met previously). I was really good at the party... I observed, slept, ate, observed, slept and then ate at home! I followed up with 9 hours of sleep that evening--I must have been partied out!

This past week Mom and Dad took on the grueling task of teaching me to nap on my own! While it has NOT been fun or easy we think it will be beneficial for us all! Mommy and Daddy still want to snuggle me (and do/will from time to time) but these 3-5 hour naps on Mom and Dad will eventually lead to sleep problems later on (and it makes it difficult for them to get the "must-do's" like dinner and the dishes done).
It was recommended by several friends, that Mommy just put me down and let me fuss it out. She was told I'd go to sleep after a few minutes. Well, that may work for others, but nope, not for me! I cried on and off for an hour and truthfully, mommy cried with me. It was a heart breaking experience for us both! She decided there must be a better way and set out to find one.
And then it hit her that night as she reviewed the days events in her head... the Baby Whisperer! With help from BW (thanks Auntie Chell' for letting us borrow that book) we're slowly making progress. The author recommends laying baby down drowsy, but not asleep and then leave the room. If (which for me--a better term is WHEN) the baby fusses you use a shh-pat method to calm/soothe and help them drift off into dream land. Mommy started this technique by herself on Thursday (against the recommendation that you only attempt the technique with help) and after a lot of tears (both mine & Mommy's) and many attempts, I finally napped for 25 minutes! Doesn't sound like a lot, but it was a MAJOR accomplishment for us and it involved absolutely NO crying it out, which is MUCH better in Mommy's opinion! She loves me too much to listen to that.
Then, later that day Daddy joined in and helped get me down for a 45 minute nap. That night I slept for 9.5 hours. Mommy and Daddy said it was WONDERFUL and hoped it wasn't a fluke! The following day I did several naps alone, although they didn't last very long. That night, I slept 10 hours! Sunday was our least successful day so far (and I snuck a nap with Mama because she wanted to cuddle me!). I just did not want to nap, let alone do so alone! Today, however Mom and Dad were convinced they had been defeated, but with some teamwork they got me down for a WHOPPING 2 hour nap! Mom and Dad are so proud of me! What a BIG BOY I am now! Now, they are waiting to see how this affects my sleep tonight. Stay tuned to find out!
